There’s nothing slow about this fast-paced romantic suspense novel. It kicks off with a suspenseful scene, and the stakes grow higher with each chapter. The characters are well-developed and realistic, and the cleverly planned-out plot keeps you turning the page.
Melanie Hutton returns to Valley Springs after being hired as the new forensic anthropologist and part-time coroner. She’s determined to find her best friend’s body after years of taunting nightmares about the brutal kidnapping and beatings of her and her friend. The problem is Melanie’s memory cannot recall the details nor the man who abducted them.
Jason Cooper, a detective with the sheriff’s department, finds himself assigned to protect Melanie after someone tries to kill her. His sister was Melanie’s best friend, and he blamed her for his sister’s death. Jason is not happy about babysitting Melanie, but it’s his job. He grows concerned for her safety after a killer grows bolder, proving his determination to end Melanie’s life.
Disgruntled feelings stir between Jason’s anger toward Melanie and her hurt and disappointment toward him for thinking she ran off and left his sister to die in the hands of a raged killer. Can the two of them find reconciliation? Will Melanie’s memory return in time to stop the killer before he murders her? Will Jason learn the truth?
I give this novel five stars. Readers will not be disappointed.
Sami Abrams grew up hating to read. It wasn’t until her 30’s that she found authors that captured her attention. Now, most evenings you can find her engrossed in a Romantic Suspense. In her opinion, a crime and a little romance is the recipe for a great story. She lives in Northern California, but she will always be a Kansas girl at heart. She has a love of sports, family, and travel. However, a cabin at Lake Tahoe writing her next story is definitely at the top of her list.
